• Ladies, why do you gotta be all oversensitive and stuff? A critic for London's Sunday Times newspaper wrote a recent piece that stated "Britain By Bike" host/sports journalist Clare Balding looks like a big lesbian. When people objected to that characterization, critic AA Gill responded by writing, "Some time ago, I made a cheap and frankly unnecessary joke about Clare Balding looking like a big lesbian. And afterwards somebody tugged my sleeve to point out that she is a big lesbian, and I felt foolish and guilty. So I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize. Sorry. Now back to the dyke on a bike ..." After further complaints about Gill's obnoxiousness and not-really apology, editor John Witherow wrote, "In my view some members of the gay community need to stop regarding themselves as having a special victim status and behave like any other sensible group that is accepted by society." So there you have it: anyone who objects to being called a "big lesbian" in the newspaper just isn't being sensible! [Guardian UK, Qweerty]
